We all know you like to see Christmas lights. So, what is the next best thing? Apple pie, baseball, and "fireworks on the Fourth of July," you can not get more American than that!

Few cities do "Fourth of July" fireworks such as Pittsburgh and its surrounding communities. In actuality, we do it well here in Southwestern, Pennsylvania, it is challenging to choose which 4th of July activities to participate in and where to go to watch July fireworks! If only we could be in many places at once...

While we can not assist you with cloning yourself to catch each terrific Fourth of July fireworks display, we can save you the trouble of finding all the areas to take part in Fourth of July events and bind your Independence Day choices. Like plenty of things have changed, so if you intend to invest in Pittsburgh, read on!

 Fourth of July fireworks in Pittsburgh is one of the summertime activities canceled due to the covid-19 outbreak. The fireworks display was scheduled among other group events that were canceled because the occasion couldn't safely comply with guidelines.

The event attracts thousands of people at multiple points across the city, from Downtown to the North Shore to Mt. Washington to the West End Overlook. "Pittsburgh residents have done an excellent job during these stressful times, remaining safe and looking out for each other.

The information indicates the struggle against this outbreak is far from over, however, and we have to maintain social distancing and other measures to win this struggle, even when we are enjoying the outdoors. Concerts, races such as summertime dance, summer camps, summer youth baseball, and the Great Race and Pistons were included in the activities list.

Allegheny County moved from the red phase to the yellow of the state's tiered reopening plan Friday. Some restrictions put in place to decrease the spread of the coronavirus were lifted or eased.

Group parties of more than 25 people are still banned in the yellow phase.

County and city parks have stayed open during the red phase, but some activities were restricted. Spray parks and city playgrounds, park shelters will remain closed.

Swimming pools, such as the Oliver Bath House, will be closed.

Quite a few activities that comply with social distancing guidelines will be permitted, city officials announced Friday.

List of Activities Allowed By City Officials:

  • Drive-in films, organized by town Special Events office starting June 13
  • Farmers markets, beginning June 3 in Carrick.
  • Road closures in town parks
  • Fields, as long as they are not used for organized group sports.
  • Frisbee golf and lawn bowling
  • Tennis, pickleball, bocce and skate parks
  • Expanded summer food program, which is likely to start June 15

Celebrate America in Point State Park (canceled in 2020)

Point State Park hosts the most significant free 4th of July party in the Pittsburgh region. Starting from noon, thousands gather to the park to enjoy live music, performances, and food. Historical reenactments, food concessions, educational activities, competitions, family-friendly games, as well as several stages of entertainment are the main charms of this celebration.

If it is your first Fourth of July in Pittsburgh, then have a photo on the background of this 150-ft fountain, the central landmark of Point State Park. Stop by the Fort Pitt Museum for a few historical reenactments. Annually, the program highlights different events such as breathtaking Air Force flyovers, boat regattas, and military exercises performed by the U.S. Army Drill Team, which is famed for its phenomenal routines and quite dangerous drills.

Flashes of Freedom Fireworks Show (canceled in 2020)

The Flashes of Freedom Fireworks Show at 9:35 pm is a memorable experience for the entire family. This show is the highlight of this party. The fireworks can be viewed from everywhere in Point State Park and across the North Shore.

Celebrate America in Kennywood (fireworks show canceled in 2020, the park opens July 11)

Every July, Kennywood Amusement Park provides a range of exciting activities to celebrate Independence Day. With six roller coasters and its dozens of rides, lots of adrenaline is ensured. The program features magic acts, music, and fun contests like a hot dog eating competition. Another highlight is the Wiener 100 dachshund annual race. Each day ends with a laser show and a fireworks display. Register online to reserve your tickets for the day or days you wish to visit the park.

Canonsburg (canceled in 2020)

This could have been Canonsburg's 53rd July 4 fireworks celebration! An event surely will not disappoint. Activities will begin with fireworks in the morning and continue all day at 9:45 pm. Check out the full schedule of events. https://www.facebook.com/canonsburgjuly4th

South Fayette & Upper St. Clair (canceled in 2020)

Want to see your Fourth of July fireworks in the comfortable setting of a park? The South Fayette Township and Township of Upper St. Clair will be hosting fireworks at sunset on July 4. For the best view, Watch them from Boyce Mayview Park. https://southfayettepa.com/520/Fireworks

Ford City (canceled in 2020)

For the last 3 years, Ford City manages the Fourth of July events in the region with its SummerFest. However, SummerFest falls from July 1 to July 4, their fireworks are only on the last night of the event, July 4! Check out the complete list of SummerFest activities.

The Big Butler Fair (canceled in 2020)

Idlewild & Soakzone (opens July 11, 2020)

Idlewild & Soakzone is just a short drive from Pittsburgh! Spend the day in the park with friends and family gather around for fireworks at 9:30.
